Black Gold & Hot is a concentrate in briquettes that, when brewed, creates a hot, rich drink with a deep colour and mild flavor. The drink is based on natural Taiga Chaga.

Chaga, a mushroom that grows on birch trees, is often regarded as a valuable natural resource in Russia. Over time, Chaga absorbs compounds from birch trees, preserving and concentrating them within itself. Only Chaga harvested from living birch trunks in harsh climates is considered to offer its distinctive characteristics.

Chaga mushroom contains over 200 biologically active compounds.

A major part of Chaga is the chromogenic complex, which makes up more than 60% of its water-soluble pigments, primarily melanin. This complex supports the body’s natural processes and helps maintain balance in metabolism. It also plays a role in protecting cells from environmental stress, including UV radiation and heavy metals. The chromogenic complex is known for its strong antioxidant properties.

The amount of chromogenic complex in Chaga reflects its purity and quality; the higher the content, the better the product.

The chromogenic content is considered an indicator of the purity and strength of the Chaga used. While Chaga grows in various regions, only Siberian Chaga—exposed to temperatures from -45°C to +45°C—contains a chromogenic complex exceeding 60%.

Antioxidant Activity of Chaga

Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals—unstable molecules that can damage cells and contribute to aging. Among natural sources, Chaga stands out for its exceptional ability to counteract these free radicals.

One of the key antioxidant enzymes in Chaga is superoxide dismutase (SOD), which helps protect the body from oxidative damage.

Chaga contains higher levels of certain antioxidant enzymes compared to other mushrooms like hydnum, matsutake, reishi, truffles, maitake, and cordyceps.

ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity)

Chaga is also among the natural sources with high ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) values, a laboratory measure of antioxidant potential. Tests conducted by independent laboratories, including those affiliated with Tufts University, have placed Chaga among the higher-ranking natural products for ORAC.
